Uncle Al - Oops

And suddenly, it's the middle of October.

Hey guys,

First of all, I want to start off with an apology. I have not been keeping you all updated the way I need to on this Patreon. To say that I've been struggling would be an understatement, but I'm clawing my way back, and I think I finally have some exciting things to share.

Around the beginning of August, I got hit with a massive wave of burnout. Turns out, that trying to split yourself between three channels and maintain some semblance of an upload schedule is kind of ridiculous for one person! Who would have guessed?

This, along with my realization that actually, I'm not that passionate about gaming news and reporting on it, really put me into a death spiral. I've been soul searching ever since to try and find my creative spark again, and fortunately, I've found a direction that I'm excited about and have begun pursuing!

The best part? I think fans of all eras of Uncle Al will find something to enjoy here. I'm having fun, and I think you will too!

Uncle Al Plus will no longer have a major emphasis on gaming news and topical discussion. To be honest, I find the state of modern gaming to be largely bleak, and I really don't like discussing these things.

I love games! I don't want to focus on the bad aspects of gaming. The whole reason I wanted to be a gaming creator in the first place was to have fun sharing my LOVE of gaming. I lost sight of that in the pursuit of numbers, and I'm making it my mission to always put FUN at the heart of everything I do from now on. If it's not fun, why bother?

This isn't to say that there won't EVER be any more topical discussion videos on Plus. When there's a game announcement or cool reveal that I'm genuinely excited about, I'll be there to share my thoughts and excitement with you guys. You can BET I'll be on the frontlines when a new DK game gets revealed! This just won't be the entire bread and butter of my operation anymore.

The only thing I love more than yapping about games, is playing them.

I decided to look back through my history, before the days of Bananza, to remind myself of some fun videos that I've worked on over the years. I'm going to tap back into some of that energy, because I think it sounds fun!

100% runs are coming back! Sort of... I won't be forcing myself to 100% every game I play. Just when I really want to! Long playthroughs are basically what I have in store, haha.

I'm calling these videos...

Big long playthroughs where you get to come experience games alongside me. There's goofs, there's laughs, anger and tears. Whatever comes out of me will be front and center in these Uncventures.

Drum roll, please...

I'm infusing these videos with a good old fashioned dose of UNC. I can't guarantee this for every video but if I can help it, I want to start incorporating animated skits/shitposts to introduce these videos. I'm basically working to create a synergy between my main channel and Uncle Al Plus. I'm hoping to work with guest animators to bring these skits to life. Matter of fact, one is already well on its way into production!

I'm very excited to see how this all comes together. For me, it's the perfect blend of getting to make gaming content that I enjoy making, while getting to flex my creative muscles (and vocal chords!) that I just don't get to do by making gaming news videos alone.

These skits will be posted separately as well over on the main @UncleAlShow channel. That way, if you only care about my skits, you can view them without locking in to my playthroughs. Basically, this allows me to post more on the main channel, as well as Uncle Al Plus! Win-win!

I have a few videos in various stages of planning already, and the first "Uncventures" video is already nearly complete aside from Animation. I'll be "Uncventuring" through Luigi's Mansion to welcome in the spookiest season.

As a bonus, I'll let you guys listen to the audio for the upcoming skit! I'll also attach the script for context, lol. I'll keep the animator a mystery for now, but let's just say I've worked with them before!

The Unc's Arcade channel is being retired... Sort of. Well, not really. Any future Unc's Arcade videos will be rolled into Uncle Al Plus.

From now on, Uncle Al Plus will be THE hub for ALL of my gaming content.

No more multi-channel confusion. I already have "Arcade" style vids on Plus, like the Patrick Star Game video, Silksong, Wheelchair Basketball, etc. Now everything will just be in one place. "Arcade" videos are more shit posty in nature, so I also think it would be fun to create some shit posty skits to kick off these videos moving forward.

I'll probably eventually begin to merge the content currently available on Unc's Arcade over to Uncle Al Plus. I think I'll probably create new opening skits for these videos as a bonus. This will happen over time, no deadlines on any of that yet.

I would hate to completely let that channel rot, because I DID just get it monetized in August. Maybe I'll turn it into a clips channel or something for the funniest moments from these "Uncventures" and "Unc's Arcade" videos. An... "Unc's Archive" if you will?... Not sure. It won't be a high priority for now.

Basically, Uncle Al Plus will (tentatively) look like this from now on:

Uncventures (BIG edited playthroughs with comedic opening animation skits!)

Unc's Arcade (Shorter, more sharply edited gameplay videos with shit post opening skits!)

Occasional Topical Yaps (Pretty rare, when I'm excited about something I'll yap about it)

The door is wide open for possible challenge runs and more focused videos as well, like my "No Banana Run" and "Peppino 64" videos.

And to reiterate, the animations/skits will be posted to the main channel as well. More content, to both channels. Pretty exciting!

The ONLY reason these skits and videos can exist is thanks to your support here on Patreon. I'm putting every penny I can back into these videos and animations. I'm really excited to start seeing these come together, and I hope you are as well. Hopefully this will be a great balance of fun for you guys and myself. Definitely having fun with it so far!

Luigi's Mansion will hopefully drop later this month. I'll keep the other videos close to my chest for now, but I'm cooking.
