We Love Cold War!! - Nico Animeworks - Weekly WLCW Update - Sept 23 part 2
About This Title
Hiya everyone, I missed last Saturday for the weekly updates. Sorry, here's a mid-week update to compensate. Also check out the anim test up top!
Animation and layouts are proceeding on the first full-length Pilot episode of WLCW. The last three months, to put it shortly, were really chaotic because I tried hiring en-masse and scaling up to production methods to "a studio-level" where I could barely maintain both the quality & output of the work we were making for WLCW, so I've simplified the goals for the production, we will make the Pilot episode, finish it, within scope, release it, and during any downtime, we wanna finish up the Shorts and then immediately start on Ep.2 and 3.
As always, I have an infinite gratitude for everyone who has put their trust and belief into this project, the timelines for the entire Season have, admittedly kind of been fucked because of my attempts to hire and train new staff while taking more of a supervisory role, which wasn't working. So i've personally have been going back into the works harder than ever before and doing more of the animation, designs, and grunt work, as much as I can within time limits and deadlines.
The animation test you saw in the thumbnail was a huge pain in the ass! I originally gave this assignment to my regular clean-up artist/colourist Weli, who has been helping out for the last 10 months ever since the OP. He did a really great job with the motion, but I felt like it could've been punched up more, so I personally spent alot of time redrawing his key animation.
It is too much of a pain in the ass to upload all of the video files for incomplete animation, so here's just, like, a bunch of previews and thumbnails for stuff that is being worked on.
2 shots below were cleaned and animated by Ian Howland with significant revision passes.
Here are more concept art & backgrounds for upcoming episodes, though they probably won't mean much atm. Two below are by Julien Bellut Hulich. Third one by Haley. Last one by Ruoxi Li.
Honestly I don't really know what to do with that last pin-up one of the guest designers did for Lena, but uhm, yea?
... Also... Nevada very very soon I promise... We had her lines recorded last year, it's taken nearly a year just because we kept shuffling around the animation schedules, but soon......And that's all for now! See you guys next week! But things are moving along faster and we hope to have something substantial to show you guys very very soon.
