dcorsetto - Daily Comics Daaaaay!! Also here's why Luke and I aren't married.

More from dcorsetto dcorsetto - Happy Daily Comics Day, have some dilapidated motels!!

About This Title

Happy Friday, friends! Here's that comic I started a couple weeks ago. One of my best friends got married and it was the most chill wedding that's ever happened (three words: outdoors, crabs, & cornhole). It was also a reunion of our Girl Scout troop - our moms were the troop leaders from elementary school thru high school!

So I need to preface this comic by saying that the woman I'm talking to has known me since I was eight, and I totally endorse her nosiness about my life. Also I figured some of you probably wondered this, too...

(I'm not actually the richest, but we're all in a similar tax bracket!)

It never even OCCURRED to me that most of the people I grew up with didn't qualify for health insurance subsidies! GOOD FOR THEM and also good for me and the rest of us who rely on them to afford health care.

And obviously this isn't the ONLY reason Luke and I aren't married, but since it's like the number one non-romantic reason Americans use to marry someone, I figured it was worth explaining. We actually talk about moving in together pretty often, but we'd need a relatively big house (I need studio space and I still have two pallets of GWS books in my garage, which I expect will be replaced by many many pallets of Elephant Town books one day).

Anyway, here's the original art for this one, if you're interested in owning it! Scroll down for your 50% off Patreon-exclusive discount!

I got to wear my favorite new piece of clothing at SPX last weekend! (BIG THANKS to all of you patrons who stopped by AND told me you were part of this community!!)

I was so happy I found my cardigan that I told EVERYONE ALL DAY. Look I just REALLY LOVE THAT CARDIGAN, and it was sitting right there on the patio chair all night, waiting for me.

Here's the original art, for you cardigan-lovers!

If you're local to Shepherdstown and you've ever heard this noise....

Guys, for all the shit we give Sergio, he is actually VERY CUTE.

(I'm obviously giving the original for this one to his owners!)

I had a really, really good day packing y'all's orders the other day.

Who needs it?!

The original art for this one is larger than usual, and you can buy it here! Remember to use DAILYSMILE50 at checkout to get 50% off for being one of my beloved Patreon patrons!

Just a reminder that I'll be upping my lowest Patreon tier from $2/month to $3/month in October, so if you know anyone who wants to join, now's the time to get them onboard! (Or gift them a membership, which you can pay for annually upfront!) DON'T WORRY, if you're in the $2/month tier right now, you're locked in! You'll still see everything you normally see! I'll just be unpublishing that $2/month tier for new members. (Btw I hate that I have to do this, but holy shit things are getting EXPENSIVE, she said, preaching to the choir.)

Some of you actually got on my Patreon so early you're locked in at the (long since unpublished) $1/month level, which I consider to be Street Cred. You've been here SINCE THE BEGINNING.

No one asked, but I'm going to return to this page after I eat something, and list the records I listened to on my no-Internet day, just in case you're curious. Come back in like two hours for your weekend chill album suggestions!

May each of you find yourselves temporarily without one thing this weekend that makes your life unexpectedly better while it's gone. (Not a cardigan.) (Okay I really just mean the internet.) (But thanks for being here in one of the good parts of the internet today. )

Danielle's Album Recommendations for a Chill Weekendbest if played while you're stuck indoors without the internet and it's raining outside. in order as seen in this photo...

Greet Death: Die In LoveThe most recent and most uplifting album by my favorite band, a shoegazy guitar band from Michigan. I love the contrast between Logan and Harper's voices, and the little homages to horror movies (Harper's and my shared interest).

Animal Collective: Isn't It Now?Probably the longest and most improv-y songs I've ever heard from these Baltimore-based weirdo sound collagists. (Thanks to my brother for getting it for me!)

Memory Tapes: Seek MagicSoft solo-artist music with a lot of unconventional sound clips (sneakers on a basketball court, field recordings of crickets and a far-away dog barking) seamlessly woven in. This is easily my most prized vinyl possession. Memory Tapes was recommended by @Jeph Jacques back when he did an end-of-the-year roundup of his new favorite music of the year (does he still do this?! I'm so out of the loop!); I listened once and fell in love. But the musician Dayve Hawk is so elusive; I can't find this album on streaming, and when I received a Bands In Town email with his name on a lineup for a small show at Songbyrd in DC last year, I was so excited to see him that I bought tickets months in advance even though his name didn't actually appear in any of the ticket information. I went to the show and listened to Animal Collective's Geologist play the hurdy gurdy for like 30 minutes straight, which is 100% of the suggested lifetime dose of the hurdy-gurdy, but the New Jersey-based artist I know and love never showed up.

Heartbroken, I ordered a used CD of Seek Magic from England, but it never arrived. Double heartbreak.

And so Luke, the greatest gift-giver of all time, surprised me at Christmas with this record, the price of which I will never ask him about. The record is sacred to me and I don't want to think about how much it cost when I take it out of its sheath and briefly expose it to the cloud of dust and cat hair between it and the record player.

Kevin Krauter: Full HandActually I should give Luke credit for most of these; he introduced me to this and Greet Death, and like 50% of the other music I listen to. This one was a good follow-up to Memory Tapes; a little more energetic, but still very feel-good-almost-sad, which I think describes this entire list come to think of it.

Cat Power: You Are FreeIs Cat Power considered shoegaze? Chan Marshall's voice is deep and extremely chill and her songs are the kind of thing that make you wanna hang your head and bop it gently and gaze at your shoes, but I don't think her music is considered shoegaze. Hopefully that gives you some idea of what she sounds like. (Trigger warning on Names, holy shit that song is heart-wrenching. Skip it unless you wanna feel sad for like five minutes and/or every time you think about it.)

Luke doesn't get credit for this one, I've been listening to Cat Power forever and he always makes fun of the silly eagle sound in the first song on Sun, which, okay, actually I can't blame him, that album is kinda cringy tbh. Stick to You Are Free, the Greatest, and Moon Pix if you wanna hear more Cat Power.

Bonus Album: Jeff Buckley's Songs to No One with Gary LucasI listened to this one, along with a few other hodgepodge recordings of Jeff Buckley, yesterday while I continued packing orders. I was looking for a very specific recording of Buckley covering Satisfied Mind, which I couldn't find on any of the non-LP records I have of his... only to realize - two minutes ago - that it is, aptly, the final track on Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk, one of the first albums I ever bought when I got a record player. I hope it's also the final track to my memorial service when I die - it's the perfect song. (Thanks to my brother Brent for this one, too!)

Yeah do yourself a favor and, if you listen to nothing else on this list, listen to Satisfied Mind covered by Jeff Buckley.
