dcorsetto - Wednesday Figure Drawing, with a first-time model! (nsfw)
About This Title
Good Thursday to y'all! I passed out early last night after figure drawing, so here's a late morning update for ya.
We were excited to have a new model last night, and the excitement matched the outcome; he was a total natural! Started off with 5-minute warmups...
I mentioned out loud that I like the challenge of drawing a face from below (it's HARD!), and then I let it slip that I have a hard time drawing backs. So, next pose, he turns his back to me. I hate it, but I love it!!
We had a simple & straightforward pose for the long one...
I wanted to make him as angular as possible, and greatly exaggerated that lean (in retrospect, I wish I'd have kept closer to that right-hand sketch in the final drawing, but oh well!).
Here's where I immediately made this fellow - who looks younger than me - look 80 years old with the eye creases, whoops! He was cool with it. I told him it's like one of those apps where you upload a photo of yourself and they show you what you'll look like when you're old, but without handing your data over to China/Russia.
And, of course...
Glowy! Here's the full scan + close-ups:
I've been enjoying these minimally-colored feet lately.
It occurred to me recently that I should be ASKING our models if I can sell their likenesses (pre-aged or not) on my store, so I'll hold off putting this up for sale until I ask him. (He gave my blessing to share these images here on Patreon.) But, as always, ARTNERD50 will give you a half-off discount at checkout if you want any of the existing figure drawings in there! I've lowered the prices of some of them, so go take a peek.
Those darker colors in today's painting came from my new set of Nicker poster colors, which I am LOVING!! I've just been dabbing them into my regular watercolor palette as needed, but whenever I reach for one of them, it's noticeably more deep and brilliant in color than anything else I've used! I'm using them on my Halloween party invite now...
The only Nicker paints I added to my already-filled palette were blobs of carmine, cobalt blue, cobalt violet, and lemon yellow. The blood on the pumpkin is directly from the jar of carmine poster paint. We'll see how it scans later! (And we'll see if I remember to share it here, wish my brain luck!)
