About This Title
You reach out and grab the pen and press it against your thigh weakly. It pricks you momentarily; you are too tired to really react. Your cheeks flush green as you feel slightly rested; the stimulant takes no time at all to flow through your roots and veins as strength returns to your limbs and you feel a surge of energy buzzing from head to toe. You shut your eyes and focus on the flame inside you, trying to make sure your soul feels connected to your form. Your body listens to you once again— tired, but workable.
You look over to Emmett and give him a thumbs-up. He is still very flustered from what he just witnessed. Most of the spiderkits have disappeared, except for the one sitting on you and another one sitting in a nest it made. You find them oddly cute, but perhaps your motherly instincts are kicking in. You sigh and think that if no harm is done... You motion to Emmett that it's time to get a move on now that you're feeling much better and are no longer worried about meeting a similar end as Thomas Kane.
You proceed through the labyrinth that is this cargo bay until you take a left behind some ten-foot-tall crates and see a decontamination chamber that's still somewhat intact. A wave of relief washes over you as the keycard reader beeps and the doors open. 'LOW PRESSURE DETECTED, STABILIZING LEVELS, GRAVITY ENGAGED,' the voice rings out. You feel air filling your lungs once again and you both descend onto the floor. The little spiderkit that followed you sits on your shoulder and yawns. The opposite doors slowly open and you peer into a large dome filled to the brim with giant gemstone pillars poking out in all directions. Now that you're not floating, navigating this space will be quite difficult.
The light from your arm casts an unsettling shadow against the wall: something is embedded deep inside the largest crystal in the center of the room. You try to make out the features of the object and realize that it is a person curled up. Their body is also made up of gems and it looks more like a person-shaped crystal embedded rather than a person trapped inside. One of those goo creatures definitely got a hold of them. You think for a moment and come to the conclusion that these pillars are alive; that is why they pricked your hand as you tried to climb across the exterior of the hull. You gulp, looking down at your hands to make sure they are still limber and not solid rock. If need be, you can snap them off before it spreads. Emmett, on the other hand. You quickly explain your hypothesis and he looks down at his hand, "M-Maybe if I just avoid touching any w-with this hand..."
You spot an illuminated sign leading to another cargo bay and scan the most optimal path toward it. What looks like small puddles spilling messily over the ground are in fact tiny gemstones slowly working their way across the floor. If you wait too long, the path may close before you. You tell Emmett you'll go first; if anything happens to you, stay away.
You are about to take your next step when you feel a rumbling from above. The dome shakes violently and throws you off your feet. You stumble backward and almost impale yourself on a nearby termination. Emmett catches you and you both tumble to the ground before looking up. You watch in horror as black goo drips from a tear in the metal ceiling. Light streams in and so does the thick slime; it lands on the glittering mass and writhes around as if in pain. Thick, rubbery tentacles emerge and try to attack the immovable object but to no avail. You watch where the gem and the goo meet and see veins of rock creeping up the shiny black surface. It starts slowly but in a matter of seconds, the entire prehensile limb is frozen solid in a beautiful reflective display. More goo rains down from the opening accompanied by a fierce roar. The spiderkit on your shoulder inches closer to your neck and hangs on, scared.
> Try to dash across the length of the dome.
> Seek shelter underneath a crystal sticking out.
