About This Title
As with most of the positions held by my girls, half of me agrees and half of me is “eh, but who knows”. The only position I stand by 100% is that good writers (particularly comedy writers) are way smarter than your typical doctors, lawyers and especially actors!
Seriously, why are actors always the ones getting interviewed? If they had anything remotely interesting to say, they would have become writers! Obviously I’d make a huge exception for writer/actors like Donald Glover. But for everyone else, your whole job is to show up and go “I don’t know what to say, what do you think I should say?”
Comedy writers have to set up a scenario that you know is going to have a twist, give you all the evidence to lead to that twist and then deliver some form of subversion that you still didn’t see coming! And it all has to make sense!
And doctors! They’re all “OMG! You’re clearly entering a manic phase with delusions of grandeur! Why aren’t you taking your pills?” Oh yeah, you’d love for me to take my “humility” pills that make me think you might know more than me! Because doctors are so famous for their humility!
